Identity Theft: Things You Need to Know
Now that we are past the holidays, many of us are expecting to "return to Earth" for the next 11 months or so. However, many of us will receive a small reminder of the fun we just had via our credit card bills. Right now we're all thinking that we didn't go overboard or spend excessively, so any charges should be manageable. Imagine your surprise when you get the bill and discover a balance that is far beyond anything you ever spent. After inspecting for a few minutes, you realize that there are a lot of big-ticket items that you never purchased. Like a bolt out of the blue it hits you: someone stole your identity!

How do you have a judgement removed from your credit report if identity theft is involved?
I am a victim of identity theft but caught it years too late because I did not check my credit report. I’ve been reviewing my report this last week and on one of the reporting agencies is a judgment for a debt that I did not make. I have already disputed the items, filed a police report, and contacted the companies.
What do I need to do about this judgment? I have no idea what it is or what to do or who to contact or where to begin.

What is the statute of limitations on identity theft in Texas?
I had a relative use my info to obtain a credit card in my name and they put themselves on the card as an “authorized user”. They have had this account open since March and I just now found out. I got a copy of my credit report from all 3 agencies and seen that nothing else has been going on except for they applied for another credit card that was denied the same day that they were approved for the one they got. They kept the account in good standing (though that is besides the point). I closed the account, changed the contact info and also password protected it. I confronted them about it and they apologized but said they were in a tight and needed a credit card for gas/bills and could not get approved themselves. They agreed to pay back the current balance. Anyway, I am undecided on what to do, I don’t want to see them in trouble but I do want them to learn a lesson. What is the statute of limitations on identity theft in Texas incase I do decide to file charges?
Thanks.

How do I dispute credit items on my credit and log in identity theft to my credit report?
I have had so much trouble with identity theft the last few years. I have not been able to get a home or a car. I know there has to be a way out there to get some of those older items deleted isn’t there?
