Unused Programs – Could They Be To Blame For Your Computer Slowing Down?

If you have had your computer for a while now chances are that it has slowed down and this must really frustrate you. But exactly why did it slow down? It all starts with the computers operating system. The operating systems is build to be as quickly and as efficiently as possible, but unfortunately after a long period of time that really doesn’t happen to be the case. What happens is that junk starts to build up on the computer and this will cause it to slow down. The obvious answer to this dilemma is to simply remove the junk and then the computer will start to run faster again, and you are right if that is what you were thinking. The only problem with this is that most people simply just don’t know where the junk builds up and they also don’t know how to remove it.

Exactly what areas does junk build up? Well there are multiple areas but unfortunately I can’t tell you all of them since it would simply take to long and I don’t have enough room the write all of it on this article. So instead, let’s focus on just one area that can improve your computers performance – removing unnecessary programs. Most of the people that I come across that have problems with their computers being slow usually have installed a lot of programs that they don’t need in the past and they haven’t bothered to remove them. If you have programs that are installed on your computer and they are not serving any purpose to you, you should really get rid of them. They will take up space on your hard drive and make things worse they will be running in the background using your computer resources which will slow it down drastically.

By removing programs you don’t need you will be able to free up some resources for you to use. I only suggest that you remove a program if you know what it is and also if you know that you don’t need it. It’s probably best if you don’t remove a program if your not sure what it is – your computer might need it. Here’s how its done:

If you are running Windows XP, click Start, click on Control Panel, click on the Add or Remove Programs and wait a little while for the list to be created (if you have a lot of programs on your computer it might take a bit longer so just be patient). Now all you have to do is to just remove the programs that you don’t need by clicking on the program and selecting Change/Remove and following through with the removal process.

If you have Windows Vista, start by clicking the Start button, going to Control Panel and make sure that at the top of the window that you have “Classic View” selected. Now just double click on the Programs and Features button (it may take a few seconds for your programs to come up on the list) and just check off the programs that you don’t need and select Uninstall to remove them. Remember to only remove programs if you what they are and if you know for sure that you and your computer doesn’t need them.
