I had an identity theft attempt in April of this year.. had to close all my accounts and re-open new ones.. and then bought an identity theft protection software.. now another attempt was made again.. so how am I supposed to protect myself better? Probably to sign up with the credit monitoring service provided by Equifax…I think it costs around $10/month…..
First of all when using the internet NEVER check the box that says remember my password or keep me signed in for 2 weeks unless I sign out, this gives hackers an easier way to find your password.
Don’t throw out anything with your name on it if it is not shredded up first. I personally always burn everything of this nature.
Apple/mac products have better protection than PC’s. A lso you can buy software to protect your computer. I think Norton’s sells it. Change your password regularly.
IT could be your stolen information is now circulating around, or the same person is attempting it again. Place credit freezes on your credit reports so thieves can’t open loans or credit cards in your name (however, you can’t, either.) Keep up to date on your computer security, use Avast anti-virus and Ad-Aware to scan your system (both free).
There is a list of precautions to be taken to help prevent Identity Theft.
