Computer Battery Backup Information
So do you think that computer battery backups are only useful for big businesses? Read the story below and see how they can help just about everyone, no matter what they are using their computer for.
Michael stared into the darkness as his heart rate increased rapidly. His computer monitor was now off, despite him not having pushed the power button, and full of valuable programming code he had been working on, had turned off completely. Everything was dark, even all the lights in the house were now off. Michael had been working on this project for 8 weeks. Mental blocks preventing him from figuring out the code that would solve all of his company’s framework issues. Finally he got it, something had clicked in his mind. And he just spent the last 6 hours writing code so fast it was almost directly brain-to-keyboard input. He had gotten into the zone.
However, like many who get into their work and zone out, he didn’t save. He never even thought about saving, until now. The electricity was off and the computer was shut down. Completely dead.
For most of us, a power outage is nothing but an inconvenience, unless it is a result of a nasty storm. Or lasts for hours and puts the food in the fridge at risk. Put yourself in Michael’s shoes. While it was his fault that he didn’t save as he worked like he should have, a computer battery backup would have prevented a catastrophe. A backup battery would have let his computer hang on for just long enough to save everything that he had done. Small enough to fit under your desk or on your desk right next to your other computer hardware, computer battery backup units don’t get in the way.
A common misconception about power outages: you don’t have to have any kind of storm that is responsible for knocking out your electricity. Many homes, especially older ones, are susceptible to power surges, which can cut your circuit breaker and your electricity. This typically occurs when there is a change at the power plant or substation, or if power lines are being repaired nearby, resulting in a spiked wave of electricity. This type of work goes on all the time and your electric company has safeguards against this, but it has happened millions of times before. Why put your valuable files and work at risk?
Brownouts are similar to this in that the load on the electrical grid becomes too great due to heavy usage. This can cause whole areas to run low on wattage, making electronics in your home shut off due to lack of electricity. While you may notice your lamps dim and come right back, your computer won’t be coming back.
All in all, these types of backups are very affordable for what they give you. If your weekly paycheck relies on hours and hours worth of work, being able to save after just one power loss will pay for the unit itself. However, there are tons of options for you to choose from. Some are higher-end and will keep your computer on for longer than some others. Others come with a convenient feature to automatically save your desktop applications and work once your computer starts to rely on the battery. Find one that suits your needs, or you could lose endless hours of work at a time.
Prone to losing data because you forget to save? All sorts of things can cause the electricity to go out. See if a computer battery backup can save you that worry.
